Prof Henry BernsteinProf Henry Bernstein is Professor Emeritus of Development Studies at SOAS, University of London, an Associate Professor, College of Humanities and Development, China Agricultural University, Beijing, and Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Agrarian Change, which he started in 2001 with TJ Byres. His latest book Class Dynamics of Agrarian Change has been translated in to Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish, with the French edition forthcoming.

Agrarian worlds of 1913 and 2013: Implications for land reform today

The presentation will sketch key changes in the structures and dynamics of world agriculture from 1913 to 2013, with special reference to land reform and small-scale farming, to help situate Southern African challenges today in a global framework.
